- Advocates for Youth published Science and Success: Sex Education and Other Programs That Work to Prevent Teen Pregnancy, HIV & Sexually Transmitted Infections in the United States and Developing Countries. This 2003 publication highlights 19 U.S.-based programs—16 sex education and three youth development. Twelve of these programs showed a delay in the initiation of sex. In addition, 17 programs had beneficial effects on sexual behaviors among sexually experienced youth. Eight programs had a positive impact on incidence of STIs or on the number or rate of teen pregnancies.
- Campaign for Our Children, Inc. The innovative web-site of the Campaign For Our Children, a joint effort of Maryland's public and private sectors, which seeks to reduce the incidence of teenage pregnancies in Maryland. The site features commercials and supporting materials. CFOC's materials have been incorporated into adolescent prevention programs, schools and community organizations in all 50 states and in other countries such as Zimbabwe, New Zealand, Canada, Yugoslavia and Germany. - Coalition Capacity Building to Prevent Teen Pregnancy In 2002, the CDC funded this cooperative agreement with 3-year national organizations and five state teen pregnancy prevention coalitions. The purpose of this three year project is to build state and local capacity through the use of science-based principles to prevent teen pregnancy and promote adolescent reproductive health, including abstinence, and prevent STDs and HIV. Grantees include:
Prevention. Through PWWTW, the Campaign will translate research on teen pregnancy prevention and related issues into user-friendly materials for practitioners, policymakers, and advocates.- Resource Center on Adolescent Pregnancy ReCAPP provides practical tools and information to effectively reduce sexual risk-taking behaviors. Teachers and Health Educators will find up-to-date, evaluated program materials to help with their work with teens.
- Talking With Kids About Tough Issues is a national initiative by Children Now and the Kaiser Family Foundation to encourage parents to talk with their children earlier and more often about tough issues like sex, HIV/AIDS, violence, alcohol, and drug abuse.
